Observations From The Final Two Games Of The 2021 NBA Draft Combine

June 26th, 2021

By Alan Lu

Yesterday, I watched the last two games that were played in the 2021 NBA Draft Combine.  I thought they would make Team 1 and Team 4 play against each other, since they both won their games the first time around, and having them do so would only allow for one potential unbeaten team after two games.  Instead, the NBA had Team 1 play against Team 3, and Team 1 and Team 4 still won in their respective games, so two teams end up the combine at 2-0, which means there also is no definitive champion amongst the teams that played here.

Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland was a standout performer in the first game, and he elected to sit out in the next game.  There were plenty of standout performances in both games, and they seemed to be better played than the first time around.

This time around, I will start with the fourth game, and then, I will analyze the third game of this event in this article.

Houston’s Quentin Grimes played really well at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine, and he scored 27 points and made 7 three-pointers to lead Team 4 to a win over Team 2.

Thoughts on the Fourth Game of the 2021 NBA Draft Combine: (Team 2 vs. Team 4)

I took the time to watch the final basketball game that took place at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine between Team 2 and Team 4.  As expected, Team 4 pounced on Team 2 from the get-go, but Team 2 made a late push to try to make a comeback.  Team 4 was able to hold on and stave off Team 2 to get the victory over them, as Team 4 also ended up going unbeaten in the 2021 NBA Draft Combine, just like Team 1.  In my opinion, the top performers of this game looked to be Quentin Grimes, Isaiah Mobley, and Aaron Wiggins.  Here are my thoughts on how they fared, as well as how other top performers played on this day. For those that are interested in the box score of this game, here is the link.

Team 4’s Quentin Grimes had a tremendous showing, as he scored 27 points, and he also made 7 threes to help propel his team to a win over Team 2.  He excelled as a sharpshooter and scorer on offense.  He would often make quick threes, as he can do so off the catch or dribble, and he also would score on step-back threes effortlessly.  He also ran quickly off of a ball screen to make a quick three another time.  He showed a lightning, quick release, and he really shined as an outside shooter in this game.

Grimes also did a good job of scoring off the dribble.  He used quick crossover moves to score on a smooth layup, and he also managed to score on another drive.  He is a gifted ball handler that can ably create his own shot, and he showed that he can finish plays using either hand.  He also managed to score on an acrobatic layup off of a quick, backdoor cut to the hoop.  On the downside, he struggled to knock down pull-up, mid-range jumpers, but Grimes really excelled at making shots in general.

He also displayed satisfactory playmaking skills.  Grimes generally passed and handled the ball well, and he was able to make a drive and kick pass to get the ball to a cutter to notch an assist.   Another time though, he threw a bad bounce pass that ended up getting intercepted. He also was able to haul in his fair share of boards, as he was able to get rebounds on both ends of the floor.  Grimes also played solid defense.  He was able to swipe a ball away from an opposing ball handler to get a steal.  He also contested a mid-range shot to force a miss.

In general, Quentin Grimes had a very good 2021 NBA Draft Combine showing, and he shot the ball really well in both games that he played in Chicago.  He is a skilled swingman that excelled at making plays on both ends of the floor, and he would likely be a good pick for an NBA team in the late first to the second round range on draft day.

Team 4’s Isaiah Mobley also played very well in his team’s win over Team 2.  He had a strong all-around game, and thrived at making plays throughout this contest. He did a very good job of shooting and scoring the basketball.  Mobley showed a knack for scoring on three-pointers, as he was able to make an open corner three, and he also dribbled to his left to make a smooth, pull-up three off the dribble.  He also excelled at scoring on hustle plays.  Mobley drove in to score in transition, and he also managed to throw down a dunk on the break.  He also scored on a tip slam after grabbing an offensive rebound.  Plus, he also managed to score on a strong, left-handed drive while getting an additional free throw.  He also tried to score in the post as he backed his man down, but he ended up missing on a turnaround jump hook.

He also showcased adequate playmaking skills.  Mobley is an unselfish player that can pass and handle the basketball, and he would make an assortment of passes to set up scores for his teammates.  He can find teammates on cuts, and he also can throw long outlet passes.  However, on one drive to the hoop, he appeared to walk before looking to pass the basketball, so he was called for traveling, which led him to commit a turnover.

He also was able to get his fair share of boards on both ends of the floor.  Mobley also defended well, as he would jump passes to get steals, and he also pounced upon a loose ball to help his team get another. In summary, Isaiah Mobley is a mobile, skilled big man that played well at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine, and he is an offensively skilled player that can shoot, pass, and handle the basketball.  He is an underrated prospect that could move up draft boards, and he is a second round prospect that could end up being a solid role player in the NBA.

Team 2’s Aaron Wiggins played really well, as he had a strong bounce back game in his team’s loss to Team 4.  In this game, he absolutely thrived as a shooter and scorer on offense.  He showed a knack for scoring on three-point shots, as he was able to make a quick, corner three, and he also pulled up to make a three off the dribble.

He also would often score on aggressive drives to the hoop.  While he would tend to favor going to his left, he also showed that he can finish plays using either hand.  Wiggins would tend to use crossover moves, as he was able to score on a powerful dunk once.  He also split two defenders and scored on a crafty layup in traffic another time.  He has a solid first step to the hoop, and he is a good ball handler that would consistently score at the rim. He also displayed fairly average playmaking skills.  Wiggins was able to throw a lob pass to a cutter to notch an assist, but he also committed a couple of turnovers in this game.

Overall, Aaron Wiggins had a strong showing in this game, and he especially excelled at making plays on offense to keep his team in it for most of the way.  He is a very athletic swingman that can shoot and score the basketball, and he would likely be a solid pick for an NBA team in the late first to the second round range on draft day.

Team 2’s Greg Brown III had a much better showing in this game, as he made more shots, he shot the ball efficiently, and he played with a much better motor on both ends of the floor. Brown showed a knack for scoring on hustle plays.  He would often catch lobs to score on thunderous, alley-oop dunks off of cuts and in transition.  He also ran in to score on a tip slam off of an offensive rebound.  He also showed a solid ability to score off the dribble, and Brown drove hard to his right to score on a magnetic jam another time.  On the downside, he struggled to connect from beyond the arc, and he missed on both of his threes in this game.

Brown was fairly turnover prone on offense.  For the positives, he is a willing passer that will look to find the open man, as he can pass out of the post and also throw outlet passes to get the ball to his teammates.  On the downside, he can be careless on offense at times.  On one drive in transition, he was called for a charging foul that led him to commit an offensive foul and a turnover.  He also threw a bad pass that resulted in him committing a turnover another time.

He also did a decent job of rebounding the basketball, and he was able to get multiple boards on both ends of the floor.  Brown also played solid defense.  He did a very good job of blocking shots.  He rotated to swat a shot hard off of a drive, and he also blocked a mid-range shot out of bounds.  He also managed to jump a pass to get a steal.  He also was not nearly as foul prone as he had played in his previous game when Team 2 had played Team 1 the day before.  Brown showed more discipline while seeming to give a more concerted all-around effort on the defensive end against Team 4, which seemed to help him.

Overall, Greg Brown III played well in this game, and he was able to make solid hustle plays to help his team on both ends of the floor.  He is a very athletic forward that may be one of the best athletes in this draft.  He will need to improve his outside shot and play more under control on both ends of the floor, but Brown’s athleticism and defensive potential could enable him to be an intriguing option for NBA teams to consider in the second round range of the 2021 draft.

Team 2’s Duane Washington Jr. played very well, as he thrived as a shooter and scorer in his team’s loss to Team 4.  Washington did a great job of scoring on strong drives to the hoop.  He is a crafty player that can use hesitation moves and change of pace dribbles to score, and he can finish plays using either hand.  He also was able to drive off of a screen to score on a floater.  Plus, he also showed a knack for scoring on three-point shots, as he was able to do so both off the catch and dribble.

As a playmaker, he looked to be fairly average.  He is a skillful ball handler that can get to where he needs to go on offense, and he was able to drive in and make a drop off pass to notch an assist.  However, he also can be turnover prone.  Washington over-dribbled once, and he ended up having the ball poked away to commit a turnover.  He also sometimes would throw hasty passes that would get intercepted by his defenders.

Overall, Washington shot the ball very well, and he showed that he can make shots from all over the floor.  He will need to show that he can reliably run the point and defend at higher levels, but his ability to knock down shots could enable him to project into a microwave type of scorer role in the NBA.

Team 4’s Justin Champagnie had a decent showing in this game, as he was able to make some solid plays to help his team on both ends of the floor.  He excelled at attacking the rim to score the basketball.  Champagnie would often score on backdoor cuts, as he managed to score on a thunderous dunk, as well as on an acrobatic, reverse layup.  He also ran the floor to throw down an emphatic jam.

Also, Champagnie was able to make a quick, corner three off the catch, but he struggled to make threes consistently from beyond the arc.  He also struggled more to score when he would try to score on drives to the hoop.  He also was a bit turnover prone in this game.  On one good play, Champagnie was able to pass the ball back to an open shooter to notch an assist.  However, he would also be careless with the ball, which would lead to team turnovers.  He dropped a catchable pass on the break.  He also lost the ball on the break due to possessing questionable hands.  He also was called for traveling on a drive another time.

He did a very good job of rebounding the basketball, and he was able to haul in plenty of boards on both ends of the floor.  Champagnie also defended well.  He was able to jump a pass to get a steal, and he also was able to contest a pull-up, mid-range jumper to force a miss. Overall, Justin Champagnie is an athletic, high-motor swingman that excelled at making hustle plays to help his team on both ends of the floor.  He’ll need to improve his outside shot and playmaking skills, but his ability to score, rebound, and defend could make him a solid pick for an NBA team in the second round range in this draft.

Team 2’s Kessler Edwards didn’t take nearly enough shots and he did not make a single three-point shot against Team 4, but he defended very well in this game.  He did run off of a curl cut to get the ball midway in the paint, as he then drove to his left to score on a powerful dunk once.  He also managed to score on a put back, and Edwards showed that he can score on hustle plays.

He also defended very well in this game.  Edwards is an athletic, high-motor forward that would often block mid-range jumpers hard to get stops for his team.  When defending on a drive, he was able to pounce upon a loose ball to help his team get a steal. Overall, Kessler Edwards generally struggled on offense in both games that he played at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine, but it was refreshing to see that he was really engaged defensively, and he consistently gave great effort on that end of the floor.  He is a very good shot blocker, especially for a tall wing player, and his ability to defend could enable him to guard a variety of positions.  Right now, he is a second round prospect, and he could project into a 3 and D role in the NBA.

Team 4’s Jason Preston didn’t seem to be overly impressive on the surface, but he just showed a very solid feel for the game, and he did a great job of running the team at the point.  He was able to run the floor to score in transition.  Though he struggled more to shoot or score off the dribble, Preston was able to score on a left-handed drive.  He seemed reluctant to take outside shots, and he ended up missing his only three-point attempt on a spot-up three from beyond the arc. He also generally showed off solid playmaking skills.  Preston is a patient player that can make drive and kick passes, and he is a smart, unselfish playmaker that can find cutters and teammates on the move to notch assists.  Sometimes, he would be inaccurate with his passes, which would lead to turnovers.

He also was able to help out to get some defensive rebounds.  Preston also managed to deflect a pass to nearly get a steal.  Overall, Preston is tall point guard that has a solid feel for the game, and he can reliably run the point.  He will need to extend his shooting range and show that he can consistently defend upper-echelon opponents, but his playmaking skills could enable him to warrant consideration late in the second round if he chooses to stay in the draft.

Team 2’s Sandro Mamukelashvili had a decent showing, as he primarily excelled as a scorer off the dribble and in the post.  He can use either hand to score on strong drives to the basket, and he would often draw free throws when looking to score in one-on-one situations.  He struggled to make his outside shots, though. He also generally passed the ball well, as he would throw good passes off the dribble, and he also generally handles the ball well, especially for a player his size.  On the downside, there was one play where he lost the ball off of a drive that led him to commit a turnover.

Mamukelashvili also rebounded the ball very well, and sometimes he would quickly bring the ball up the floor afterwards.  Overall, Mamukelashvili had a fairly good showing at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine.  He is a point center that can score the basketball in a variety of ways, and his agility and playmaking skills really stood out.  He may be an underrated prospect, and he could be a solid pick for an NBA team in the second round range of the 2021 draft.

Team 4’s Josh Christopher decided to play in this game after playing very well in the previous match.  He didn’t play nearly as well in this contest, but he still was able to make some solid plays as he had some good moments to help his team get the win over Team 2. Christopher showed a knack for scoring on aggressive drives to the hoop.  He was able to score on a thunderous dunk off the dribble, and he also managed to score on a smooth, finger roll layup another time.  He would take it hard to the rack to draw plenty of free throws.  Sometimes though, he would take tough, off-balanced shots that would lead to misses.

He was able to run off the ball to make a wide-open, three-point shot, but Christopher generally struggled to knock down outside shots from both the mid-range or from beyond the arc. He also passed the ball well, and Christopher is an unselfish player that was able to get many assists in this game.  He also was able to get a handful of defensive rebounds in this game.  He also played adequate defense, as he would jump passes to get steals, but sometimes he would pick up quick fouls when defending opponents off the dribble.

Overall, Josh Christopher is a very athletic swingman that generally played well at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine.  He is one of the most athletic players at his position, and he is a high-upside prospect that excels at attacking the hoop to score the basketball.  He will need to improve his outside shot and his decision-making skills in games, but his ability to score and make plays on both ends of the floor could make him an intriguing option for NBA teams to consider in the late first to the second round range of the 2021 draft.

Team 4’s RaiQuan Gray had his ups and downs in his team’s win over Team 2.  He wasn’t quite efficient as a scorer nor did he take a single three-point shot.  He showed an adequate ability to score off the dribble though, and he also threw down a thunderous dunk to score on a strong, left-handed drive late in this game.  Early on, he struggled to consistently get his shots off, as he had a couple of his shots blocked, but Gray plays with a very good motor, so he was able to score more later on.

He also generally passed and handled the ball well.  Gray would throw solid interior passes to set up scoring chances for his teammates, and he is a good passer.  On one drive though, he ended up losing the ball to commit a turnover. He also did a decent job of rebounding the basketball.   Overall, Gray is an athletic point forward that can play a variety of positions, and his versatility and skill set could make him an intriguing option for NBA teams to consider in the second round range on draft day.

Joe Wieskamp scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds, and he also made 6 three-pointers for Team 3 against Team 1 in a June 25th NBA Draft Combine game.

Thoughts on the Third Game of the 2021 NBA Draft Combine: (Team 1 vs. Team 3)

I decided to take the time to watch the third game of the 2021 NBA Draft Combine.  Team 1 got off to a big lead over Team 3 in the first half.  Team 3 played hard and they tried to make a comeback, but Team 1 was able to hold them off to get a double-digit victory.  In my opinion, the top performers appeared to be Joe Wieskamp, A.J. Lawson, and Jericho Sims.  Here are my thoughts on they fared, as well as how other prospects fared on this day.  For those that are interested in the box score of this game, here is the link.

Team 3’s Joe Wieskamp played very well, as he scored 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting, he made 6 threes, and he also hauled in 10 rebounds in his team’s loss to Team 1.  He especially thrived as a sharpshooter when he was on the floor, and he also rebounded and defended well in this game. Wieskamp did a tremendous job of knocking down threes to provide floor spacing for his team on offense.  He would often make quick, spot-up threes off the catch.  Plus, he excelled at scoring on off-ball motion plays.  He also managed to score on a quick, backdoor cut to the hoop.  He also ran the floor to score in transition.

He displayed fairly average playmaking skills.  Wieskamp was able to make a drive and kick pass to set up a scoring chance for his teammate.  However, he also committed a couple of turnovers due to carelessness. He was called for traveling on a drive, and he also threw a bad pass that got intercepted another time. Also, Wieskamp did a tremendous job of rebounding the basketball.  He also defended well, as he would get his hands on passes to help his team get plenty of steals and deflections.

In general, Joe Wieskamp had a strong showing, as he especially shined as a shooter, scorer, and rebounder in this game.  He had a very good showing at the combine overall, and he is an athletic, skilled sharpshooter that could be a good pick for an NBA team in the late first to the second round range of the 2021 draft.

Team 1’s A.J. Lawson also played very well in this match, as he he had a solid all-around game to help lead his team to a sizable, double-digit win over Team 3.  He is a very athletic swingman that excelled at making plays from all over the floor. He shot the ball fairly well, especially from downtown.  Lawson showed a knack for scoring on three-pointers, as he can do so off the catch or dribble.  He would use crossovers and side step moves to knock down pull-up threes, and he also was able to make a quick, open corner three off the catch.  However, he struggled to score on mid-range jumpers.

Lawson also did a very good job of scoring in transition.  He would run the floor hard to score on fast breaks, and he also managed to score on a high-flying dunk in transition.  He also drove quickly to the hoop in transition to draw free throws.  He also attempted to score on a half-court drive, but he ended up getting his shot blocked that time.

He also displayed solid playmaking skills.  Lawson did a very good job of passing in transition as well as off the dribble to notch assists.  He can throw accurate lobs, and he also excelled at finding his teammates on the move to get them the basketball. He also did a very good job of rebounding the basketball.  Lawson also played very good defense, as he would often intercept passes to get steals, and he also poked a ball away to get a steal another time.

In summary, Lawson had a very good, all-around performance, and he played much better in this game to help his team get the win over Team 3.  He is a very athletic, swingman that projects to be a second round pick in the 2021 draft, and if he can continue to hone his game and improve as an overall player, he could end up being a solid role player in the NBA.

Team 1’s Jericho Sims had a strong showing to help his team get a double-digit win over Team 3.  He is a very athletic center that excelled as an inside scorer, and he showed a knack for finishing plays above the rim to score the basketball. He showed a satisfactory ability to score in the post.  He would throw down powerful dunks, and he also managed to score while drawing an extra free throw another time.  He missed a dunk once, and he also missed when attempting to lower his shoulder to try to score in traffic another time.

Plus, Sims also showed a knack for scoring on hustle plays.  Sims excelled at scoring on rolls, cuts, and in transition.  He managed to throw down a dunk off of a roll to the rim as well as on a floater.  He scored on a turnaround, flip layup off of a backdoor cut.  He also ran the floor to score on a high-flying dunk, and he also caught a lob to score on a magnetic, alley-oop dunk another time.

He did commit some turnovers, and on one play, he had a ball ripped away from him to lose the basketball.  He also did a decent job of rebounding the basketball, and Sims was able to haul in boards on both ends of the floor.  Sims also defended well, as he was able to poke a ball away to nearly get a steal, and he also contested a three to force a miss.

Overall, Jericho Sims played very well at the NBA Draft Combine, and he looks to have moved up to firmly put himself in the second round conversation.  He is a very athletic center that has the potential to be an even better player than he was in college, and he could end up being a solid backup center in the NBA.

Team 1’s Dave Duke played fairly well in his team’s win over Team 3, and he especially excelled at making plays on offense in the first half.  He showed off versatile scoring skills, and he shot the ball well from the outside.  Duke didn’t seem to take enough shots from out there, but he showed a knack for scoring on pull-up jumpers in this game.

He also showed a solid ability to score off the dribble.  Duke was able to make a rip move to his left, as he then drove in to score on a powerful dunk.  He also showed a knack for drawing fouls when taking the ball to the rim.  Another time though, he had his shot blocked on a left-handed drive another time. He also displayed decent playmaking skills.  Duke is an unselfish player that can make passes off the dribble to notch assists, but he also was fairly turnover prone on offense as well. Also, Duke showed a solid ability to rebound the basketball, and he was able to haul in boards on both ends of the floor.  Duke looked to be fairly average defensively.  He was able to get a steal, but he also committed a reach-in foul when guarding an opposing ball-handler another time.

Overall, Dave Duke had a fairly solid showing, as he especially played well on offense in this game.  He thrived as a shooter and scorer, and he is an athletic combo guard that could be a solid pick in the second round range of the 2021 draft.

Team 1’s McKinley Wright also played well to help lead his team to a win over Team 3.  He didn’t take many shots, but he was efficient as a shooter and scorer on the floor.  Wright was able to knock down a quick, corner three, and he also used a crossover and pulled up to score on a long two-pointer while getting an extra free throw.

He also managed to score on a backdoor cut, and he also drew free throws on a strong drive to the hoop.  Wright also passed and handled the ball well.  He excelled at throwing interior passes to find teammates on the move, and he also would make crisp, accurate passes off the dribble.  He showed a good feel for the game, and for running the point.  He did commit one turnover early on, as he drove aggressively to the hoop, but lost the ball out of bounds.

He also did a very good job of rebounding the basketball.  Wright also defended well in this tournament, as he would apply heavy ball pressure to make things difficult on his opponents. Overall, Wright had a solid showing, as he excelled at making plays on both ends of the floor to help his team get the victory.  He may not be the flashiest player, but he is a smart, skilled playmaker that made sound plays and reliably ran the point, and he is a second round prospect that could project to be a solid backup point guard in the NBA.

Team 1’s Julian Champagnie had a decent showing in his team’s win over Team 3.  He showed off versatile scoring skills, as he was able to make several spot-up threes to help his team space the floor.  Champagnie also ran the floor to catch a lob to score on a layup.  He also drove hard to his left to score another time.  He also missed his fair share of outside shots, and he was streaky with his outside shot.   he also missed on a switch of hands layup after splitting the defense to try to score another time.

He also displayed satisfactory playmaking skills.  Champagnie is an unselfish player that would look to find the open man, and he was able to throw a long outlet pass to set up a score for a teammate on the break.  He also did a fairly good job of rebounding the basketball.  Also, he played solid defense in this game.  Champagnie was able to intercept a pass to get a steal.  He also hustled to block a corner three out of bounds due to possessing solid athleticism and timing.

Overall, Julian Champagnie had his ups and downs in this tournament, but he was able to make some impressive plays at times, and he showed a much better outside shot and motor in this game.  Right now, he is a borderline second round candidate, but his athleticism amd jump shot could enable him to be an effective rotation player in the NBA.

Team 1’s Matt Hurt had a decent showing in his team’s win over Team 3.  He was able to space the floor better for his team in this game.  Hurt showed a knack for scoring on pull-up, mid-range jumpers, and he also would score on spot-up threes off the catch, as he also made one off of a pick-and-pop play.  Hurt also was able to score on a put back after grabbing an offensive rebound.  However, he also would be quite streaky with his jump shot, which would lead him to miss fairly often.

He also displayed fairly average playmaking skills.  Hurt was able to throw an accurate interior pass to notch an assist.  However, he was called for a push off once, which led him to commit an offensive foul and a turnover that time. Also, Hurt was able to haul in his fair share of boards, as he was able to get multiple boards on both ends of the floor.  He also managed to contest a shot when defending in the post to force a miss.

Overall, Hurt did not shoot nearly as well in this tournament, and he struggled to consistently create his own shot, but he seemed to be the most effective as a floor spacer on offense, especially from the mid-range.  He will need to get more acclimated to NBA range and he will need to show that he can guard upper-echelon players on a consistent basis.  Right now, he is a borderline second round candidate that projects to be a skilled, stretch big in the NBA.

Team 3’s Ochai Agbaji showed off versatile scoring skills in his team’s loss to Team 1.   He showed off versatile scoring skills, and he especially excelled at scoring on hustle plays.  Agbaji ran the floor to score on the break, and he also managed to score on a strong put back after grabbing an offensive rebound.  He also made a quick, spot-up three to show his shooting skills.  On the downside, he struggled more to score off the dribble, and he can be streaky with his jump shot.

He also did a good job of rebounding the basketball.  Agbaji was also able to contest a three to force a miss.  Overall, Agbaji didn’t really seem to stand out in the NBA Draft Combine games, but he seemed to have a better showing in this game.  Right now, he is a borderline second round candidate for the upcoming draft.  He is a very athletic swingman, but he’ll need to continue to improve his jump shot and ball handling skills, and doing so could help him become an effective rotation player in the NBA.

Final Thoughts on the Last Two Games of the 2021 NBA Draft Combine:

There were some solid performances in both of these games, but some of the players really stood out by playing really well in these matches.   Here is who I thought stood out the most in these games.

The 3 Stars of the Final Day of Games from the 2021 NBA Draft Combine:
1. Quentin Grimes, Team 4
2. Joe Wieskamp, Team 3
3. A.J. Lawson, Team 1

Both Quentin Grimes and Joe Wieskamp did a tremendous job of shooting and scoring the basketball.  Grimes showed more creativity as a passer and ball-handler, while Wieskamp was similarly effective at using off-ball motion to effectively shoot on the move, and Wieskamp excelled as a shot-blocker and defender.  Grimes’ team, Team 4 was able to ride off into the sunset with a victory to go unbeaten (along with Team 1) in this tournament, and Grimes was the best player on the winning team in this set of games.

A.J. Lawson had a really strong bounce back game, as he had a very good all-around showing.  He showed off great athletic gifts, and he made a slew of highlight reel-worthy plays.  He also shot the ball very well from beyond the arc.  He scored 17 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals to help his team, Team 1 to get the win over Team 3.

VCU’s Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland had a tremendous showing in Team 1’s win in the first day of games at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine, and he played so well that he was able to skip out on the second day of games at this event.

We have also decided to make my picks for the All-NBA Draft Combine teams.  It was a very tough call to decide who to name the MVP.  It was a very close call between Bones Hyland and Quentin Grimes, and Joe Wieskamp also factored into the discussion as well.

Bones Hyland had a dominant first game, and played so well that he didn’t need to play in another contest.  Quentin Grimes was consistently a very good performer, and he played really well in his second game.  Like Grimes, Joe Wieskamp shot the ball very well, as he too dominated in his second game, but Wieskamp’s teams finished 0-2, as where both Hyland and Grimes won all of the games they played in.  We decided to look at how players fared as a whole, both statistically and visually, and we came up with our picks for these teams. Without further ado, here are our picks for the All-NBA Draft Combine First and Second Teams.
