July 30th, 2026

By Alan Lu

Recently, I took the time to watch the 2026 Nike Hoop Summit that took place on April 11th  to get a feel for who the top prospects are for the 2027 NBA Draft, with thanks to YouTube via NBA.  There were plenty of standout performers, and it was an entertaining game as Team USA edged out Team World in overtime.  Here are my thoughts on who stood out, and how various players played fared in this game. Also, for those that are interested in the box score of this game, here is the link, courtesy of NESN.

Caleb Holt scored 24 points, and he had 8 rebounds and 7 steals, as he almost had a triple-double in Team USA’s 102-100 overtime win over Team World.

Strong Performances:

Caleb Holt played very well to lead Team USA to a narrow win in this game.  He did a great job of shooting and scoring the basketball, and he also excelled as a rebounder and defender when he was on the floor.

He showed off sweet shooting skills, as he made a plethora of threes, as he did so both off the catch and dribble.  He was able to soar to throw down a fast break dunk off the dribble, and he can score on strong moves in traffic.  He also showed a solid pull-up jumper, and he can score on hustle plays.

He also showed that he can make outlet passes to find open teammates in transition, and Holt is an unselfish player.  However, he also was quite turnover prone in this game.

Also, Holt did a very good job of rebounding the basketball.  He also played solid defense. He showed a knack for intercepting passes and poking balls away to get steals. Sometimes though, he would occasionally struggle to stay in front of his man when defending off the dribble, which would lead his team to allow scores.

In general, Caleb Holt turned in a strong showing to help get his team the win.  He is an athletic, very skilled swingman, and he could end up being the top pick of the 2027 draft.

Abdou Toure is a 6-5 guard that will play for Arkansas, and he played very well for The World.  He did a great job of making plays on both sides of the ball, and he especially thrived as a shooter, scorer, and defender.

Toure shot the three-ball well, especially on spot ups, and he also showed a knack for scoring on hustle plays.  He has great balance and body control that can allow him to finish tough shots in traffic.  He also rebounded and defended well, and he was tremendous as a shot blocker in this game.

Overall, Toure put forth a great performance in this game, and he is a very athletic guard that will bring intriguing scoring skills and tremendous defense to Arkansas.  He is a talented prospect, and he could end up being a likely lottery pick in 2027.

Brandon McCoy Jr. is a 6-5 guard that will play at Michigan.  He is an agile, very skilled player that showed off strong all-around skills, as he especially excelled as a scorer and defender.

McCoy showed a knack for making shots efficiently, as he can make spot-up threes and score on hustle plays.  He showed off satisfactory playmaking skills, as he has good court vision and can make an assortment of passes, especially on the break.  He also defended very well, as he would jump on loose balls to get steals, and also did a very good job of blocking shots.

Overall, McCoy did a very good job of making shots and hustle plays, and he did excellent work on both sides of the ball.  He made very good plays within the team system, and he is a versatile player that could end up being a likely lottery pick in the 2027 draft.

Miikka Muurinen is a very athletic, 6-10 Finnish forward that will play at Arkansas. He is a high-motor player that played very well on both ends of the floor.

Muurinen showed a knack for throwing down high-flying dunks off of cuts and in transition, and he excelled at scoring on second chance points, as he can consistently score in traffic.  On the downside, he missed both of his three-pointers. He also passed and rebounded well.  He also would get his hands on errant passes to get steals.

Overall, Muurinen had a strong showing to help the World team in this game.  He’ll need to improve his jump shot, but his athleticism, skill set, and upside could enable him to be a likely lottery pick in the 2027 draft.

Caleb Gaskins is an athletic, 6-8 forward that will play at Miami.  He played very well, as he excelled as a scorer, rebounder, and defender.  He showed a knack for scoring on hustle plays.  Gaskins was able to make a spot-up three to showcase his shooting skills.  He also utilized a crafty pump fake to score off the dribble.

He also played satisfactory defense, and Gaskins was able to hustle back to make an impressive chase down block to swat the ball to a teammate.  Overall, Gaskins is a talented prospect that has a variety of skills, and he could end up being a lottery pick in 2027.

Miles Sadler is a speedy, 6-0 point guard that will play for West Virginia.  He did a great job of shooting and scoring the basketball, and he picked up a handful of assists, but he also was very turnover prone.

Sadler did a good job of scoring off the dribble.  He has a very quick first step, and he also showed good touch to score in traffic.  He also excelled at making threes.  Every once in a while though, he would rush his shots, which would lead to some misses.

As a playmaker, he looked to be about average.  He also showed that he can make a variety of passes to set up scores for his teammates, but he also would tend to over-dribble, which lead to frequent turnovers.

He also played decent defense. Sadler was able to get steals, and he would be in position to contest outside shots to force some misses.  However, he would get overpowered on drives, and his lack of size would make it tough for him to defend, which would lead him to allow scores.

Overall, Sadler had a solid showing in this game.  He excelled as a shooter and scorer, but he’ll need to take better care of the basketball.  He is a talented prospect that could end up being a first round pick in whichever NBA draft he decides to enter in the future.

6-11 Duke forward, Cameron Williams also played well for Team USA.  He excelled in limited playing time, and he did a fantastic job of blocking shots to help his team protect the paint.

He was able to score on a strong put back while getting fouled.  He also was able to get involved as a passer and rebounder.  He was a terrific shot blocker in this game.

Overall, he didn’t play much, but he was quite effective when he was on the floor.  If he manages to have a very good freshman season, Williams could end up being a first round pick in 2027.

Tyran Stokes is a very athletic, 6-7 forward that will play for Kansas.  He is a tremendously athletic scorer that showed a knack for scoring off the dribble, out of the post, and on fast breaks.  He can drive up court to score on speedy dunks, can overpower defenders to score in traffic, and has great balance, footwork, and shooting touch to score on crafty moves out of the post.

He also is an unselfish player that can make passes off the dribble and in transition, and he has solid court vision.  On the downside, he was quite turnover prone in this game.  He also played adequate defense.  Stokes was able to jump passes to get steals.  However, he would sometimes space out and lose track of his man, which would lead him to allow scores.  He also was foul prone, as he fouled out.

Overall, Stokes is a very talented prospect that has an intriguing skill set and a vast amount of upside.  He’ll need to improve his outside shot and improve on the finer points of the game, but he could end up being a lottery pick in 2027.

Mixed Bag:

Jordan Smith Jr. is a very athletic, 6-2 point guard that will play for Arkansas.  He did a good job of scoring the basketball.  He can make outside shots both off the catch and dribble, and he is a fleet-footed guard that can score quickly off the dribble, as well as catch lobs to score on the break.  He also is an unselfish player that can get the ball to his teammates to set up scores for them, but he also was fairly turnover prone on offense.

He also rebounded the ball well. Overall, Smith is a talented prospect that has a lot of upside, but he will need to be a more consistent playmaker on offense.  Still, if he reaches his full potential, he could end up being a lottery pick in 2027.

Jason Crowe Jr. is an athletic, 6-3 point guard that will play for Missouri.  He showed a knack for scoring the basketball and grabbed some rebounds, but struggled with turnovers in this game.

Crowe shot the ball well, as he can make shots from the outside, and he also can score on tough, acrobatic shots off the dribble.  He also can make passes off the dribble, but was also quite turnover prone.  He also defended fairly well, and he was able to cut off penetration to help force a ball-handling turnover once.

Overall, Crowe is an athletic, downhill driver that has a lot of upside, but he will need to be a more consistent outside shooter and playmaker with the ball in his hands.  He is a talented prospect, and if he reaches his full potential, he could end up being a lottery pick in 2027.

Adam Atamna is a 6-5 French guard that will play for Ratiopharm Ulm.  He is a skilled playmaker that excelled as a shooter and passer in this game.  He can spot up to knock down jumpers, though he didn’t shoot much when he was on the floor. He is a crafty player that can utilize a crafty pump fake to make drive and kick passes. He also utilized a nifty, behind-the-back bounce pass to find a teammate on the move.  Atamna has good court vision, although sometimes he may try to fit a ball into a tight window, which can lead to some turnovers.

Overall, Atamna is a skilled, offensive minded guard that has played at the highest levels of Europe.  He’ll need to be a more consistent shooter and defender in games, but he’s already a terrific free throw shooter and generally makes good reads on offense, and he could end up going in the late first to the second round range in 2027.

Paul Osaruyi is a 6-10, Canadian big man that showed some solid scoring and rebounding skills in this game.  He excelled at scoring on hustle plays, and he has good hands that allows him to catch lobs to score on high-flying, alley-oop dunks.  He also showed that he can set solid on-ball screens to get his teammates open driving lanes to help set up scores for them.

He also was able to get some rebounds in this game.  Defensively, he looked to be fairly average. For the positives, Osaruyi was able to run in to make a chase down block off the dribble.  However, sometimes he would have lapses, as he would lose track of his man and be late on his rotations, which would lead his team to allow scores.

Osaruyi is a talented prospect that will still need to improve in the finer points of the game, but he is a very athletic big man that could excel as a rim runner and rim protector, and he could end up being a first round pick in the 2028 draft.

Lucas Morillo is an agile, 6-7 forward from the Dominican Republic that will play for Illinois.  He showed some interesting skills, even though box score wise, his stats read as having an up and down performance.

Morillo excelled at making spot-up threes, and he is a good shooter from the outside.  He also was able to use a spin move to score on a drive in transition.  However, he didn’t shoot as well on twos, as he would struggle to consistently score off the dribble.

He also is an unselfish player that can make a variety of passes to set up scores for his teammates.  On the downside, he would also sometimes commit turnovers.  He also defended fairly well, as he would jump on loose balls to get plenty of steals.  However, he also was quite foul prone in this game.

Overall, Morillo had a fairly solid showing in this game.  He’ll need to be a more consistent player in games, but he is an intriguing prospect that could project to be an athletic, 3 and D wing in the NBA.

Christian Collins is an athletic, 6-9 forward that will play for USC. He had his ups and downs in Team USA’s win in this game. He struggled to make shots from the outside, but he excelled as an inside scorer, as he was able to drive off of an offensive rebound to quickly score.

He also passed the ball well, and he has solid court vision, as he can make a variety of passes to set up scores for his teammates.  He also rebounded the ball really well, and he also jumped on a loose ball to get a steal once.

Overall, Collins is a talented prospect that will need to be a more consistent player in games, but his size, skill set, and upside could enable him to be a first round pick in 2027 if he turns in a strong season.

Tajh Ariza is an athletic 6-10 forward that will play for Oregon. He did everything pretty well except shoot or score the basketball in this game.  Ariza excelled as a facilitator off the dribble, and he was active at crashing the glass to get rebounds for his team.

He also defended fairly well.  He was able to poke a ball away to get a steal, and he’ll use his length, athleticism, and instincts to do so.   On offense, Ariza was able to move off the ball to get open to get it, which allowed him to score around the basket.  However, he didn’t shoot the ball well in this game.

Overall, Ariza is an intriguing prospect, and his playmaking skills and defense already look to be solid. He’ll need to improve his jump shot, but he could end up being a first round pick if he ends up having a very good college basketball season this year.

Lackluster Performances:

Baba Oladotun is an athletic, 6-10 forward that will play for Maryland. He was able to score on a strong drive while getting fouled, but he otherwise didn’t seem to make a huge impact on this game.  He’ll need to continue to refine his overall skill set. He is a talented prospect that could be a second round pick in the 2027 draft.

Elijah Williams is a 6-6 swingman that will play for Baylor. He was able to get to the free throw line aplenty, and he grabbed some rebounds in limited minutes, but visually, he wasn’t entirely noticeable in this game.  He projects to be a 3 and D wing in the NBA.

Bruce Branch III is a young, 6-7 swingman that will play for BYU.  He didn’t make much of an impact on this game, but he showed some defensive skills, as he was able to contest a three to force a miss.  He was able to get some rebounds and assists. On the downside, he didn’t take many shots nor shoot well, and he was held scoreless.  Overall, Branch is a player that may possess considerable upside, but he will need to be a more consistent player in games, but he could be a possible first round pick if he plays well in college basketball.

Sinan Huan is an agile, 7-1 center that will play for Purdue.  He didn’t make a huge impact on this game, but he was able to push the pace before passing it back, and he showed some playmaking skills in this game.  He also was active on the boards. Other than that, he didn’t make a noticeable impact, as he didn’t take a shot and was held scoreless. He is a talented prospect that could end up being a second round pick in a future NBA draft.

Ikenna Alozie is a very athletic, 6-2 point guard that will play for Houston.  He had his ups and downs, as he can score quickly off the dribble, and he can make drive and kick passes. However, he didn’t shoot well from the outside, and sometimes he would make hasty plays that would lead to turnovers.  Overall, Alozie will need to be a more consistent player in games, but if he can refine his overall skill set, he could end up being a first round pick in a future NBA draft.

Deron Rippey Jr. is a very athletic, 6-2 point guard that will play for Duke. He showed some playmaking, rebounding, and defensive skills, but he shot the ball poorly, and he didn’t make a field goal in this game.

He defended very well, as he was able to make a huge block off the dribble due to possessing good athleticism, timing, and instincts.  He also was able to help force a turnover by applying heavy ball pressure.  Rippey also can make a variety of passes to get assists, but also can sometimes over-dribble, which can lead him to commit turnovers.

On the downside, he didn’t make a shot, and he really struggled to shoot the basketball.  Overal, Rippey is a pass-first point guard that will need to improve his shooting and scoring skills, but he could project to go in the late first to the second round range in 2027, especially if he plays well this season.

Ethan Taylor is a 7-0 center that will play for Michigan State.  He also drew free throws aplenty and grabbed some rebounds, but wasn’t very noticeable in this game.  He could be a prospect to watch in the future.

Ethan Mgbako is a 6-6 swingman that will play for Vanderbilt.  He didn’t make a noticeable impact in this game, but plus-minus suggests he may have defended well.  He’ll need to improve his jump shot and playmaking skills, but he could be a prospect to keep tabs on the down the road.

All in all, those are my thoughts on how various prospects fared in this game. Thanks for reading.
