Planning Out The Draft For The 2024 Cleveland Cavaliers

June 16th, 2024

by Alan Lu

The Cleveland Cavaliers started out by having a good season, and as they were able to get the quartet of stars to gel in Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley, they were able to get a top four seed in the East to earn a postseason berth. But after they unsurprisingly lost to a more talented Boston team, the Cavaliers made a shocking decision to fire their head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, even though he was one of the better coaches in the league this year. It could be argued that Bickerstaff was essentially made the scapegoat for their second round playoff exit, even though the team they lost to (Boston) was the much better team, and that the Celtics will probably win the championship this year.

J.B. Bickerstaff won 99 games in his last two seasons with the Cavaliers, and this year’s Cleveland team won 48 games in the regular season, but the Cavaliers ended up losing in the second round to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, which has even led some to question the fit of the quartet of Mitchell, Garland, Mobley, and Allen and their ability to go deep into the playoffs.

First thing, the Cavaliers will need to hire a coach. Maybe that could be J.J. Redick, maybe that could be Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego, Sam Cassell, or someone else. But they will also need some 3 and D wings and more talent to help them out in the meantime. Finally, if you are a fan of an NBA team that needs a head coach, this is a must watch for you. LeBron James and JJ Redick’s Mind The Game podcast. In this, Redick explains various play actions into great detail, and he expertly explains what Post Splits are, and why that play makes the Warriors so hard to guard, especially in their heyday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers could use versatile, 3 and D swingmen that can knock down shots, defend, and ably fit into the team system along their current personnel. The above players would be polished players that could can contribute right away, and there are also other players that they could opt to select at 20 if they choose to go in a different direction.

Anyways, that is all there is for now. Thanks for reading.
