By NBA Scouting Live

With the NBA regular season having been wrapped up, it is now time to make our picks for who would win the 2023-24 NBA regular season awards.  There have been plenty of surprises and disappointments along the way, and it’s been a thrilling ride as we get to the postseason play.  While the NBA hasn’t yet released who are the finalists for the awards or who has won them, we have decided to make our picks for these awards. Without further ado, here are our picks as made by our staff.

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA MVP Award:

Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic continues to amaze, as he has put up tremendous numbers on the reigning champions. He is a very smart, skilled point center that can rack up triple-doubles, and he has proved that the center is back in business. He averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9 assists per game, and he was tops in many advanced metrics this season. While SGA and Doncic are strong candidates for this award, Jokic’s tremendous numbers combined with Denver’s strong team play makes him our pick to win this award this year.

2nd: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
3rd: Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award:

Jrue Holiday, Boston Celtics

It’s a very close and competitive race for the Defensive Player of the Year award, but our pick to win this award is Boston Celtics’ Jrue Holiday. While Rudy Gobert put up strong numbers and is the favorite to win this award, Holiday has made extremely valuable contributions to Boston this year.

Jrue Holiday has been consistently one of the best defensive perimeter defending guards, so he is the Celtics’ primary defender at the point of attack, and he often takes a lot of difficult assignments.  He was traded by Milwaukee and landed in Boston, and it’s definitely impacted Boston for the better, and Milwaukee for the worse. Holiday helped the Celtics win 64 games in the regular season, and his ability to guard the other team’s best players on a nightly basis and get his team the best record is why he’s our pick to win this award this year.

2nd: Rudy Gobert, Minnesota Timberwolves
3rd: Herbert Jones, New Orleans Pelicans

Others Receiving Votes:

Jaden McDaniels, Minnesota Timberwolves

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year Award:

Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs

This was also a close race between Wembanyama and Holmgren, but our pick for this year’s Rookie of the Year award is Victor Wembanyama. Though Holmgren is having a strong season and would probably win this award in most seasons, Wembanyama is a one-of-a-kind, generational talent that has put up terrific numbers this year.

He’s put up tremendous numbers, and he is a do-it-all pivot player that has had numerous dominant performances and has been incredibly fun to watch this season. While Holmgren is on the much better team, Wembanyama is already putting up All-Star level numbers as a 20-year old rookie. Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game this year, and he is our choice to win this award.

2nd: Chet Holmgren, Oklahoma City Thunder
3rd: Jaime Jaquez Jr., Miami Heat

Others Receiving Votes:

Amen Thompson, Houston Rockets

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA Coach of the Year Award:

Mark Daigneault, Oklahoma City Thunder

Daigneault has transformed himself into being a really good coach, and the Thunder is now a very good team that is secretly a title contender. He helped lead the upstart Thunder to win 57 games in the regular season, which was tops in the Western Conference. This was especially good considering that the Denver Nuggets are the defending champions, and Daigneault has managed to help his young squad to get even more wins than Denver this season.

2nd: Chris Finch, Minnesota Timberwolves
3rd: Tom Thibodeau, New York Knicks

Others Receiving Votes:

Jamahl Mosley, Orlando Magic

Our Pick for the 2023-24 Most Improved Player Award:

Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers

When James Harden wanted out, that turned out to be the best thing individually for Tyrese Maxey’s young career. Maxey is a speedster that has blossomed into becoming an NBA All-Star, as he is a dynamic point guard that can score and distribute the basketball. He’s developed into becoming one of the best players in the NBA, and he is our pick to win this award here.

2nd: Alperen Sengun, Houston Rockets
3rd: Scottie Barnes, Toronto Raptors

Others Receiving Votes:

Isaiah Hartenstein, New York Knicks, Jonathan Kuminga, Golden State Warriors, Jalen Suggs, Orlando Magic

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award:

Malik Monk, Sacramento Kings

It’s a close race between Monk and Reid for this award, but we decided to go with Monk here. Monk has been putting up strong numbers, as he averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game for Sacramento this season, and he has helped the Kings land another playoff spot this year.

2nd: Naz Reid, Minnesota Timberwolves
3rd: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Atlanta Hawks

Our Pick for the 2023-24 NBA Executive of the Year Award:

Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics

Brad Stevens made two slam dunk trades in his team’s favor, one by maneuvering a way to get Jrue Holiday after Milwaukee had dealt him to Portland in a trade involving Damian Lillard, in which Holiday has given Boston a defensive ace that has also brought steady consistent and reliable offense, and Stevens also helped make another big trade to land star center, Kristaps Porzingis to give his team more firepower. With these moves helping to net the Boston Celtics 64 wins this season, Stevens is our pick to win this award.
