Also, I was able to watch K &D Round’s Landscaping face off against Portsmouth Sports Club in a match that would send one team to the championship game of the 2018 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.  It was a hard-fought match that went all the way into overtime, but strong shooting from Andrew Rowsey, as well as the energetic play of Chris Cokley helped K & D get a narrow victory in a contest that went beyond regulation.  For those that want the box score to this game, here is the link

Colorado’s 6-6 senior forward, George King played very well as he notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds, as he also made two threes to help K & D Round’s Landscaping to get a narrow win in overtime.  King did a good job of shooting and scoring the basketball.  He excelled at knocking down corner threes, and he also can run off screens to make them.  He also showed a knack for scoring on strong drives to the hoop, and he also can pull-up to score on runners and long two-point shots.

Also, he can score on off-ball motion plays, as he managed to throw down a thunderous dunk once.  But sometimes, he may miss shots in traffic, as he may sometimes try to force the issue too much every once in a while.  However, he was a bit turnover prone in this game.  While King would look to make the extra pass to find the open man, he would commit turnovers due to carelessness.   Every once in a while, he may inaccurate with his passes, and he also was called for a charging foul when taking it to the basket.

King also did a good job of rebounding the basketball, as he showed a good motor to collect defensive boards for his team.  He also defended fairly well.  King managed to rip the ball away from an opposing low post player to get his team a steal, and he also blocked a shot.  He would actively contest shots in the paint to force misses.  But he did have one bad defensive possession, as he fouled an opponent on a drive that led his team to allow a score and an extra free throw.

In summary, George King had another solid showing in Portsmouth, as he has played very well in this tournament so far.  He has been doing a good job of making plays on both ends of the floor.  With his skill set, he could project to be a 3 and D type of player at the next level, as he could end up being a second round pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Seton Hall’s senior big man, Angel Delgado played very well for Portsmouth Sports Club, as he excelled as an inside scorer and rebounder in his team’s loss to the opposition.  There were times where he was dominant in the second half, and he had a much better game this time around.  Delgado did a very good job of scoring on high post drives.  He showed a quick first step to the basket, and he can use jab steps and pump fakes to get past his man.  He excelled at getting scores off the dribble, and he would often draw and make extra free throws afterwards.

Also, he excelled at scoring on hustle plays.  Delgado threw down a couple of magnetic dunks on the break, and he really threw it down forcefully on the second jam he made.  Plus, he also managed to score on a put back, and he is a good athlete that possesses a tremendous motor when he is on the floor.  Plus, he showed a decent ability to score in the post.  Delgado was able to score on a tough jump hook over an opponent, and he also used a spin move to knock down a fadeaway jumper.  Plus, he also showed good strength, as he backed down his man to score on a left handed, jump hook.  But sometimes, he can struggle with his shooting touch, which can lead him to misses.  In addition, he took a couple of mid-range jumpers, but he was unable to connect on them.

He also showed off decent passing skills, and on one play, he passed from the post to find a teammate on a backdoor cut to notch an assist.  Delgado also rebounded the ball well.  He excelled at collecting boards when he was on the floor, though there was one time where he got tied up by an opponent which led a jump ball.  Also, there were a couple of times where he would commit fouls when opponents would go for rebounds, as one play led his team to allow a score and an extra free throw.  In summary, Angel Delgado played very well, as he made high-motor plays to help his team throughout this game, and he also showed a solid ability to score off the dribble in this contest.  He may be one of the best players in this tournament, and he could end up being a second round pick this year.

Murray State’s senior point guard, Jonathan Stark played very well for the Portsmouth Sports Club.  He excelled as a shooter and scorer when he was on the floor, and he also made some solid defensive plays in this game.  Stark did a good job of getting scores off the dribble.  He showed a knack for knocking down pull-up jumpers from all over the floor, and he also was able to score on strong drives to the hoop.  Stark has good quickness, body control, and shooting touch, and he also can score on floaters.  But sometimes, he would struggle to score in traffic, as he would occasionally have trouble making shots against taller defenders.

On the other hand, Stark showed very good athleticism by scoring on a riveting tip slam off of an offensive rebound.  While he shot the ball decently, he struggled more to knock down spot-up threes than when he would take them off the dribble.  While he primarily looked to score, Stark did show the ability to throw passes off the dribble to set up scoring chances for his team.  He also would go in to get offensive rebounds, as he was able to get plenty of them when he was on the floor.  He also played good defense, as he was able to swat a shot in transition, and he can also poke balls away from opponents to get steals for his team.

In general, Jonathan Stark had a very good game, as he showed off a variety of scoring skills, he defended well, and he may have made the play of the first half when he threw down a thunderous tip dunk off of an offensive rebound.  He turned in his best game of the tournament yet, and he could be a potential second round pick for the upcoming draft.

Rhode Island’s 6-3 senior guard, Jared Terrell had a good showing to help lead K & D Round’s Landscaping to a win over Portsmouth Sports Club.  He did a good job of shooting and scoring the basketball, and he also played solid defense.  Terrell did a good job of knocking jumpers to space the floor, and he also showed a knack for scoring and drawing free throws on strong drives in transition.

He also managed to draw free throws by swooping in to go for an offensive rebound late to help get the game to overtime.  Plus, he also defended well, as he can provide heavy ball pressure, and he also intercepted a pass to get a steal.  Overall, he played well, and he is an athletic combo guard that could end up being a good addition to an NBA team’s summer league roster.

UAB’s 6-8 senior big man, Chris Cokley played very well to help lead K & D Round’s Landscaping to get a win on Day 3 of the 2018 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.  Cokley excelled at scoring on hustle plays, as he would get scores on the break, and he also managed to score on a tip dunk off of an offensive board.  Plus, he also managed to draw free throws on a hard roll to the rim.  He also knocked down a mid-range jumper off of a pick and pop play, but he struggled to make jumpers when he would take shots from further away.

He also passed the ball well, and in this game, he threw an interior pass to notch an assist.  Plus, he did a great job of rebounding the basketball, and he would come up with many boards to help his team in this match.  However, defensively he looked to be average at best.  For a positive, he managed to hold his ground when defending in the post to force a miss.  But sometimes he would commit fouls on drives due to over-aggressiveness, and he also allowed a score on a jump hook when defending on the block another time.

Overall, Chris Cokley had a solid game, as he notched a double-double to get his team the win.  He is an athletic, high-motor player that can make hustle plays on both ends of the floor, and he could end up being a solid addition to an NBA team’s summer league roster, as he could end up being a similar player to that of James Michael McAdoo in the league.

Marquette’s senior point guard, Andrew Rowsey played fairly well, as he did a very good job of shooting and scoring the basketball to help get K & D Round’s Landscaping a tough win to send them to the championship game.  Rowsey showed a knack for making jumpers to space the floor for his team, as he can make them off the catch, dribble, as well as when he dribbles off of screens.  He also showed a fairly good ability to score on drives to the hoop, as he can use crafty dribble handles to get past his man, but he would sometimes miss on runners.

He also would get the ball to his teammates on rolls to the rim to set up scoring chances for them.  However, he struggled with turnovers.  He tended to rush his decision-making, as he would throw bad, inaccurate passes that would lead to turnovers.  Another time, he lost the ball when handling it.  Overall, Rowsey had a good showing to help lead his team to a win, and he especially played well in overtime, as he made shots and showed some passing and rebounding skills in that stretch.  But he did tend to commit too many turnovers at times when he was on the floor.  Still, he has had a solid tournament, and he may have what it takes to find his way onto an NBA roster next season.

Also, TCU’s senior center, Vladimir Brodziansky played fairly well for Portsmouth Sports Club, as he knocked down a couple of threes to space the floor, and he did a great job of blocking shots to prevent opponents from getting easy shots up.  Plus, he also rebounded the ball very well.  He did struggle to score in the post, but other than that, he had a good game.  Overall, he is a mobile big man that can knock down jumpers and block shots, and he has an interesting skill set that could enable him to be a potential second round pick on draft day.

Notre Dame’s 6-10 senior center, Martinas Geben did a good job of scoring on hustle plays, he did a good job of collecting offensive rebounds, and he also defended well to help K & D Round’s Landscaping get the victory.  Geben excelled at scoring on put backs, and he also managed to score on a roll to the rim.  He also showed a knack for making mid-range jumpers, and he also was able to draw free throws in the post as well as on a high post drive.

He also would set good screens, as he was able to help a teammate get open to score on a jump shot.  Plus, he excelled at defending in the post, and he also drew a charge when defending a drive.  But he also committed a couple of fouls when defending opponents off the dribble, and he also did not get many defensive boards in this game.  Overall, Martinas Geben had a fairly good game, as he did a good job of making plays on both ends of the court to help get his team the win.  He is a smart, physical big man that has a solid motor, and he could end up making an NBA team’s summer league roster this year.

Seton Hall’s 6-4 combo guard, Khadeen Carrington had a decent game, as he helped K & D Round’s Landscaping get an overtime win on this day.  He did a good job of getting scores off the dribble, as he can score on drives and knock down mid-range jumpers.  He also managed to score on a turnaround fadeaway jumper after posting up on the block.

He is also a good pick and roll ball handler, as he can astutely get them the ball to set up scoring chances for them, and he also can kick the ball out to shooters.  He did throw a ball away once when facing heavy ball pressure, but generally Carrington excelled as a playmaker on offense.  Overall, Khadeen Carrington had a fairly good game, and he is an athletic combo guard that could end up making an NBA team’s summer league roster.

For Devon Hall, he turned in an uneven performance in his team’s loss to K & D Round’s Landscaping.  He did a good job of knocking down threes, but he was inconsistent in getting scores off the dribble, and he occasionally struggled to score in traffic, as he had a couple of shots blocked around the hoop.  He did play unselfishly, and he would jump passes to get steals, but sometimes he would rush plays, which would lead him to commit a turnover or foul every once in a while.  Overall, this was not his best game, but Hall played very well the game before, and a strong performance on Day 4 could help him get an invite to the NBA Draft combine.  Even if he doesn’t get invited there, he is a skilled combo guard whose offensive skills could help him make an NBA roster next season.

For St. Bonaventure’s senior guard Matt Mobley, he started off strong as he made some plays for the Portsmouth Sports Club, but he ultimately did not play well in his team’s loss to K& D Round’s Landscaping.  Early on, he was able make a corner three and he used a crossover to knock down a long two off the dribble.  He also was able to kick the ball out to shooters to set up scoring chances, and he would also can get his hands on balls to help his team get steals and deflections.  But he really struggled to knock down long-range jumpers from beyond the arc in this game, he also was inaccurate on some of his passes, and he would also commit fouls due to over-aggressiveness.

He had a really strong first game in Portsmouth, but his second one did not turn out nearly as well as anticipated.  Mobley is an athletic scorer that has some defensive skills, but questions about his playmaking ability combined with his inconsistent play may not bode well for his draft stock.  But as he is a player that can put up points on the board, he could likely end up being a good addition to an NBA team’s summer league roster.

Other Notes:

I did not see the first game on Day 3 of this tournament, but it turned out to be the highest scoring match among the teams that played on that particular day.  For those that are interested in the box score in Norfolk Sports Club’s win over Roger Brown’s, here is the link.

Yante Maten scored 22 points and he also made 3 threes, as he showed off versatile scoring skills, and he played good defense to help the Norfolk Sports Club get the win.

Thomas Wilder excelled as a scorer and playmaker when he was on the floor, and he also played solid defense, as he managed to get three steals and a block in this contest.  He only made one of four threes, but he did everything else well as he generally played a solid all-around game to help his team get the win.

Desi Rodriguez scored 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Roger Brown’s, and he made all 3 of his threes.  He struggled with turnovers, but he did a tremendous job of making shots for his team, as he really excelled as a scorer when he was on the floor.

Tra Holder did a good job of shooting and scoring the basketball, he rebounded the ball well, and he also showed off some playmaking skills, though he was also had some trouble with turnovers.

Also, Bogdan BliznyukElijah Brown, and A.J. Davis also shot the ball very well, and Bogdan Bliznyuk did a very good job of distributing the basketball to get assists to help his team.

Kenrich Williams did a good job of knocking down shots when he was inside the arc, and he also rebounded the ball well.  He collected many steals for his team, but he was unable to make a three, and he also struggled with turnovers on offense.
