Mapping Out The 2024 Draft For The Orlando Magic

June 16th, 2024

by Alan Lu

The Orlando Magic had a very good, pleasantly surprising season in which they made the playoffs, thanks to the strong play of their forwards Paolo Banchero, who made his first NBA All-Star team, and Franz Wagner, who led Germany to win the gold in the FIBA Basketball World Cup recently. Also, Jalen Suggs had a very good third season in the NBA, as he ended up being on the All-Defensive Second Team. Their head coach Jamahl Mosley did a very good job of coaching them, and even though the Magic lost to the Cavaliers in the first round this year, they should be proud of what they did and accomplished this season, as they can build on their solid season for the future.

Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have formed to be two of the best young forwards in the NBA right now, and the Orlando Magic should be excited for next season.

For the Magic, they also have a slew of solid young players around Banchero, Wagner, and Suggs, as Cole Anthony is an athletic playmaker that can score the basketball, and Wendell Carter Jr. can score and rebound out of the post. In the draft, they could look to select a lead ball handler, some 3 and D wings, or another big man to man the paint.

So without further ado, here is what I did for Magic in the ESPN’s 2024 NBA Mock Draft Simulator.

In the first round, they could use a solid prospect that could space the floor and add value to their team, and Ja’Kobe Walter, Tristan Da Silva, Kel’el Ware, and Jared McCain would all be solid options at 18.

In the second round, some 3 and D forwards would be solid picks in that range, such as Harrison Ingram or Jalen Bridges. Also, if they were to take a point guard, that could help add depth to their team as well.

The 2024 NBA Draft will be held on June 26 and 27. Thanks for reading.
