This time around, I took the time to watch Valencia Basket’s Sergio De Larrea play in a September 27th game against Unicaja, with thanks to YouTube via Partidos Unicaja ACB. De Larrea is a skilled, versatile playmaker that has solid offensive skills, and he’s been getting major minutes in some of the toughest leagues in professional basketball. He’s a talented prospect that could end up being a first round pick in 2026, so I decided to take the time to watch him play in this game. Here are my thoughts on he fared here.

Sergio De Larrea is a savvy, skilled offensive player that can score the basketball in a variety of ways. He was able to score late on a quick, crafty cut after using a ball fake. He showed some shooting skills by showing that he can knock down threes off the catch.
He is a smooth scorer that showed a fairly solid ability to score off the dribble. He was able to score on a running, pull-up, mid-range jumper. He also was able to split a double team another time, and he showed a knack for drawing contact to frequently get to the free throw line. De Larrea was a little streaky with his outside shot, but he generally excelled as a scorer on the floor.
Plus, he also showcased solid playmaking skills. De Larrea was adept at making quick reads, as he can find open shooters and teammates on the move, which allowed him to create scoring chances for his teammates. He did commit one turnover where he handled the ball and collided into a defender before losing it out of bounds, but generally De Larrea excelled as a passer and decision maker in this game.
He also was able to get a couple of defensive boards in this game. He didn’t show great rebounding instincts, however, and sometimes he would forget to box out and miss balls in his area.
He was also okay defensively. De Larrea is agile, has solid length, and will compete on this end, and he was able to rotate to block a shot off the dribble. He also would quickly go around screens to stay with his man, and he also managed to close out on a shooter to force a miss. On the downside, he would sometimes take bad angles or get caught ball watching, which would lead him to be out of position and allow opponents to get open. Other times, he would struggle to stay in front of his man, as he would get beat off the dribble, which would lead his team to allow scores.
Overall, Sergio De Larrea is a smart, skilled combo guard that had a solid showing in his team’s win over Unicaja, and he also received some meaningful minutes in a close game down the stretch. He is a legitimate first round prospect for the 2026 draft, and he could end up being a solid role player in the NBA.
