Evaluating Mohammad Amini in a French League Basketball Game

May 27th, 2025

By Alan Lu

This time around, I decided to take the time to watch Nancy Basket’s 6-7 swingman, Mohammad Amini play in an October 12th French League basketball game against Charon, as I was able to see this with thanks to YouTube via Sportsfive.  Amini entered his name in the 2025 NBA Draft a while ago, so I wanted to watch him play in a full professional basketball game, and it also was an opportunity to watch Zacharie Perrin play once again.  Here are my thoughts on how Amini fared in this game, as well as how his game may translate to the NBA.

Iran’s 6-7 swingman, Mohammad Amini is a second round prospect if he chooses to stay in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Mohammad Amini had a solid showing to help his team to a win over Charon.  He is a strong, athletic swingman that showed a knack for making hustle plays and sound decisions when he was on the floor.

Amini excelled at scoring on quick, strong drives off the dribble.  He was able to intercept a pass and drive up court to score on a high-flying dunk.  He also drove quickly to score in traffic while getting fouled.  He also used an overhead ball fake and split a double team to score another time.  On the downside, he struggled to make shots from the outside, and Amini wasn’t able to make a three-pointer from beyond the arc.

He also displayed satisfactory playmaking skills.  Amini is an unselfish player that can make a variety of passes to find the open man, and he would make passes off the dribble and in transition to set up scoring chances for his teammates.  He also is quick and can handle the basketball, and he took good care of the ball on offense.

Also, Amini did a very good job of rebounding the basketball.  He would often leap up to haul in boards, and he also showed that he can bring the ball up and push the pace quickly.  He also played satisfactory defense in this game.  Amini is an active defender that can jump on loose balls, intercept passes, and poke balls away to get steals and deflections.  He can stay in front of his man to apply significant ball pressure, and he’ll contest outside shots to force misses.  On the downside, sometimes he’ll shade too far one way and not move his feet well, which would lead him to wind up out of position defensively.

Overall, Mohammad Amini played well, as he especially excelled at making plays on both ends of the floor to help his team get the victory.  He is an athletic, energetic swingman that can finish plays above the rim, and he is a second round prospect that could end up being a versatile role player similar to Memphis Grizzlies’ swingman, Vince Williams Jr. in the NBA.

Other Notes:

Zacharie Perrin received considerable playing time in this game, but he didn’t play very well in his team’s win over Charon.  He is an agile, skilled big man that has shown the potential to be a 3 and D player at the NBA level, but he’ll need to continue to refine his skills in the meantime.

Perrin missed both of his three-point attempts, and he was held scoreless in this game.  He showed off adequate playmaking skills in this game.  He is an unselfish player that will make the extra pass, and he also can pass off the dribble and find teammates on the move.  He also set a solid off-ball screen to help free up a shooter on offense once.  On the downside, Perrin was quite turnover prone.  Sometimes he would throw hasty passes that would go astray, which would lead him to commit turnovers.

He also didn’t grab many rebounds in this game.   Perrin was able to run in and leapt up to get an offensive rebound, but he caught the ball in a weird spot, and he committed a turnover shortly afterwards.  He also was not able to get a defensive board against Charon.

Defensively, he looked to be about average at best.  For the positives, he can rotate fairly quickly, and he will sometimes contest shots to force some misses.  On another play, he rotated to draw a charge on a driver to get a stop for his team.  On the downside, he tended to struggle to guard quicker players on switches, which would lead him to commit fouls and allow scores.  Other times, he would sag too far off his man and give up too much space to shooters, as he would allow his opponents to score on open jump shots.

Overall, Zacharie Perrin struggled in this game, but he did get plenty of playing time when he was on the floor.  He’ll need to improve his jump shot, shot creation skills, and he’ll need to be more assertive on offense, and he should consider playing in college basketball to increase his ability to take on more of a scoring load.  Regardless, he is a second round prospect for the 2026 draft, and if he can continue to hone and develop his game, he could potentially end up being a versatile role player in the NBA.

All in all, those are my thoughts on how both Amini and Perrin fared in this game.  Thanks for reading.
