Summary:
On first glance, this looks like a ridiculously bad decision for Bryson Tucker to turn pro, as he has absolutely no production to speak of at the college basketball level, and he’s a former McDonald’s All-American that turned in two underwhelming seasons. It still very well could be, because Tucker is far behind skill wise on offense. He’s never averaged six points per game in a college season, and is a career 23% three-point shooter in college. But then again, to counter that point, Peyton Watson was atrocious offensively in his lone season at UCLA, and Watson has turned out to be a solid role player for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, so hyperbole aside, there may be hope for Tucker yet. And maybe he’s banking on the development of the G-League and other teams outside of college basketball to help him get closer to become an NBA player.
Unless if an NBA team is enamored with his upside, then Bryson Tucker will most certainly go undrafted. He might end up on an NBA summer league roster and will need to spend time in the G-League or overseas to hone his game, as he’ll really need to work on that jump shot. In the immediate term, he would probably be used as a cutter and ball mover on offense, and would be used as a situational energy player off the bench, and Tucker will really need to work on spot-up shooting to add another component to his game.
If Tucker can get his jump shot to a passable level and also master team defense concepts, he could become a useful role player. Otherwise, he may end up spending his time in the G-League and/or overseas for the entire duration of his professional basketball career.
