Planning For The 2024 Draft For The Boston Celtics

June 17th, 2024

Right now, things have been really good for the Boston Celtics, and the way this season is playing out, they could be poised to become the 2024 NBA Champions. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are playing well, and Kristaps Porzingis has been a dynamic force on both ends of the floor when healthy. Jrue Holiday and Derrick White have been tremendous on the defensive end, and Al Horford has been a reliable, dependable role player for the Celtics.

They have gotten strong production top to bottom, and the Celtics don’t appear to have any major weaknesses. If anything, they could look to bolster their depth to help them both for next season and for the future. Also, the Celtics won the championship tonight, and they now have the most NBA titles in history with 18 NBA titles.

Here is who I selected for the Boston Celtics in the ESPN’s 2024 NBA Mock Draft Simulator.

Kevin McCullar would be the tough, playmaking swingman that can guard people, and Justin Edwards is a very athletic forward that projects well into a 3 and D role.

Kel’el Ware would be a tremendous pickup if he were somehow still available for them to have at 30 (but I don’t think Ware will be there at 30 for the Celtics in the actual draft). He’s a very tall and athletic big man that can stretch the defenses and provide rim protection, and he would provide minutes to give Porzingis and Horford some much needed rest, as Ware would add talent and depth to this team. Jaylen Wells is an athletic, skilled combo forward that can shoot the basketball and provide floor spacing, so he would be a solid option for them to consider at 54. Quinten Post also may be someone they could consider late in the draft, as he is a productive big man that can shoot and pass, and he’s a skilled offensive player that could contribute right away.

In analyzing these three test runs, at 30, there will be solid players for the Celtics to choose from at that spot, and they will be able to come away with another good player for them. At 54, it will be interesting to see what the Celtics would do with their pick at that spot, as they could go for a player that could fit their team system and develop into a rotation player, or they could also try a swing for the fences, upside pick, and bank on their development to be able to get their future second round pick to develop into a rotation player for them in the future.

Kevin Garnett once said, ‘Anything is Possible!’ And anything is possible indeed, as the Boston Celtics won Game 5 against the Dallas Mavericks to become the 2024 NBA Champions.

Also, congratulations to the Boston Celtics for winning their 18th title! It was a really good, collective team effort, and they defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games to win the 2024 NBA Finals. They received positive contributions from many different people in their organization, and Jaylen Brown was named the Finals MVP. Anyways, that’s all for now. Thanks for reading.
