Mapping Out The 2024 Draft Plan For The Philadelphia 76ers

June 15th, 2024

The Philadelphia 76ers got off to a fast start under new head coach Nick Nurse before Joel Embiid got hurt this season, but they had a very good, All-Star year from Tyrese Maxey. Embiid was healthy in time for the playoffs, but the 76ers lost in their first round series to the Knicks, and the 76ers had a disappointing run in the playoffs. Overall, they won 47 games in the regular season, but their first round ouster may lead to more questions about their ability to contend for the title in the future, and despite having one-time MVP Joel Embiid, Embiid has surprisingly never been to the Conference Finals yet. But all that aside, the 76ers will have to march on ahead and hope their team can be legitimate title contenders, as they will build around Embiid and Maxey next year with head coach Nick Nurse to lead the way, and the 76ers could be getting a lot of cap space that can allow them to spend a lot of money in the offseason, but they’ll have some decisions to make about their current roster.

The 76ers will need to add depth and wings around Embiid and Maxey, as they will need to add more talent to try to help them out in the postseason. It also may not have helped that they traded away James Harden, so they will need to help replace his loss on the team, but the 76ers will need to add more ball movement, shooting, and defense on this team. But also, Joel Embiid gets hurt a lot, so a backup big man also could be an option here. At 16, Kel’el Ware, Justin Edwards, and Kyle Filipowski would be very good options here, and either one of them could be the choice for the 76ers there at that spot.

Anyways, here is what I did for the 76ers in the ESPN’s 2024 NBA Mock Draft Simulator.

Kel’el Ware is an athletic, skilled big man that can knock down shots and can offer rim protection, and he also could help give Embiid a rest in the regular season. In the meantime, if they were to not want to select Ware at 16, there are other good options available for them to select at that spot.

In addition, they could use wing players that could offer immediate help to their team at 41, and players that can shoot and defend well would greatly complement the skills of Embiid and Maxey. Just as another note, Shannon was found innocent recently, and as he had a tremendous season this year, his strong all-around skills would make him a great fit for the 76ers at 41, and I also don’t think he’ll be there for them to select in the second round, as he would probably end up being selected in the first round. Anyways, the 2024 NBA Draft will be held on June 26 and 27, so that should be exciting. Thanks for reading.
