2021 Top 100 Prospect Rank: 14
Projected Draft Range: Mid to Late 1st Round
Very good shooter, especially from deep
Crafty scorer off the dribble
Excels at scoring on off-ball motion plays
Adequate rebounder for his size
Lacks an elite first step off the dribble
Can be too scoring focused on offense
Can be careless on offense, which can lead to turnovers
Can be undisciplined defensively
Not a true point guard, but is undersized to play the two
Jared Butler is an agile, skilled point guard that can shoot and score the basketball. He had a terrific junior season, and he had a dominant, 30-point, 8 assist performance in which he made 7 threes in a win over Kansas on January 18th.
He’s not an explosive athlete, but he gets to where he needs to with the basketball. He recently scored 22 points and had 7 assists to lead his team to a win over Gonzaga to help his team win the 2021 National Championship. Butler’s strong offensive skills, combined with his high basketball IQ and solid defensive skills could enable him to be a very good value pick for a team in the mid to late first round range of the 2021 draft.
