Height: 6-2
Weight: 150
College: UAB
Classification: Junior
Birthdate: 1/19/2001

Projected Draft Range: 2nd Round to Undrafted

Pros:

Adequate scorer off the dribble
Handles the ball well
Decent rebounder for his size
Adequate defender
Very good athlete

Cons:

Really needs to improve his shooting
Can struggle to score in traffic
Struggles to protect the basketball, is quite turnover prone
Can play too wildly on offense
Can be undisciplined defensively
Not a true point guard, but is undersized to play the two
Must get stronger

Summary:

Eric Gaines is a very athletic, energetic combo guard that previously played at LSU prior to transferring to UAB for the upcoming season.  He is a high-flyer that can throw down some impressive dunks, and he will likely be UAB’s lead ball handler and go-to scorer, so there will be big expectations that will await him for the upcoming year.

He will need to significantly improve his jump shot and show that he can reliably run the point, but his vast athleticism, combined with his scoring and defensive potential makes him a second round prospect for the 2023 draft.
