D.J. Burns

Updated on 4/8/24.  Written by Alan Lu.

Height: 6-9
Weight: 275
College: NC State
Classification: Sixth-Year Senior
Birthdate: 10/13/2000

Projected Draft Range: 2nd Round to Undrafted

Pros:

Solid low post scorer
Solid playmaker for his size
Decent defender
Solid shot blocker
Above average athlete
Has great strength

Cons:

Needs to improve his face-up game
Must extend his shooting range
Not an elite rebounder
Not an elite athlete
Weight concerns, may be too bulky for the modern NBA game
Old for a draft prospect, may have limited upside

Summary:

D.J. Burns is a mobile, skilled big man that plays for NC State, and he is a skilled scorer and passer out of the post. He is a very good scorer out of the post, but there are concerns about if he could effectively make the transition to the modern NBA game. He will need to add more range to his jump shot and show that he can defend quicker opponents at higher levels, but his ability to make plays in the paint and strong performance against Duke could enable him to make it to the NBA someday.
