Collin Gillespie is a tough, gritty playmaker that can score the basketball in a variety of ways, and he also can effectively run the team at the point. He is a good spot-up shooter that can ably knock down threes, and he also excels at taking the ball to the rim to score off the dribble. However, he can tend to struggle to shoot on the move, as he can struggle to consistently knock down pull-up jumpers, and he sometimes may not always be focused defensively.
Considering that he went down to a devastating knee injury late this season, which caused him to miss the 2021 NCAA Tournament, it is not surprising that he decided to return for a fifth season next year, as that news was pretty much expected, and Villanova fans will certainly be thrilled that he and Jermaine Samuels will be coming back to play for them. Gillespie has been playing well this season, but he really struggled in his team’s loss to Baylor. Still, he could project into a backup or third-string point guard role in the NBA.
