2020 rankings were finalized on 11/17/20.
Very good scorer off the dribble
Excels at scoring on the move
Adept at collecting steals
Needs to improve his shooting
Prone to hoisting up questionable shots
Can be careless on offense, which can lead to turnovers
Can be unfocused defensively
Anthony Edwards is a very athletic, skilled combo guard that can shoot and score the basketball. He is a player that could be a dynamic playmaker at the NBA level, and he is an explosive athlete that can score on strong drives to the rim as well as make a barrage of long-range jumpers off the dribble. Edwards could project to be an elite scorer, and his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands could allow him to develop into a superstar in the association.
On the downside, he can be prone to shooting slumps, and he didn’t actually post great shooting percentages this season. Edwards also doesn’t seem to always give great effort defensively, but he can be a solid defender when he is dialed in.
This season, he was asked to carry a heavy load on a mediocre SEC team, and for the most part, he seemed to do an admirable job. While there may be some questions regarding his shot selection and his defensive effort, Edwards’ strong offensive skills combined with his elite athletic gifts may make him a prime contender to be the top pick of the upcoming 2020 draft.
